Copper Repiping Services in Southern California

Most people don’t set out to buy a repipe. They call because a pipe failed again — the third patch in two years, a warm spot on the slab, a plumber recommending yet another reroute. At that point the question is no longer how to fix one leak, but whether the pipes themselves have reached the end of their service life. At Repipe Once, we replace aging plumbing with durable copper built to last. Serving Los Angeles, the San Gabriel Valley, the Inland Empire, and Orange County, our promise is simple: done once, done right — so you stop paying for the same leak twice.

What Is Copper Repiping?

Copper repiping is the process of removing outdated or failing water lines and replacing them with new copper pipes. Unlike older galvanized steel or worn plastic pipes, copper provides superior durability, resists corrosion, and helps deliver clean, safe water throughout your property. Whether it’s a single-family home, an apartment building, or a commercial space, copper repiping ensures your plumbing system is efficient, reliable, and built for the long run.

Signs You May Need Copper Repiping

It’s not always obvious when your pipes are reaching the end of their lifespan. If you’re experiencing any of the following issues, it may be time to consider copper repiping:

  • Low Water Pressure – Weak or inconsistent water flow often points to corroded or clogged pipes.
  • Discolored or Rust-Colored Water – Brown or yellow water is a common sign of rust buildup in old plumbing.
  • Frequent Leaks or Pipe Bursts – Persistent leaks usually indicate widespread deterioration that repairs alone can’t solve.
  • Outdated Galvanized Plumbing – Homes and businesses with galvanized steel pipes are especially prone to corrosion and failure.

Two local factors accelerate all of this. Much of the pre-1960s housing stock across East Los Angeles, Montebello, and the San Gabriel Valley was plumbed in galvanized steel, which corrodes from the inside out until the interior diameter closes up. Southern California’s hard water then leaves scale on top of that corrosion. The result is a system that degrades everywhere at once rather than failing in one convenient spot — which is why a spot repair on galvanized pipe is so often followed by another leak somewhere else.

Catching these warning signs early can prevent costly water damage and ensure your plumbing system is safe and reliable.

benefits of copper repiping

Benefits of Copper Repiping

Choosing copper repiping isn’t just about fixing today’s plumbing problems — it’s about protecting your property for decades to come. Some of the key advantages include:

  • Long-Lasting Durability – Copper pipes are proven to last 50 years or more when properly installed.
  • Corrosion Resistance – Unlike older galvanized steel, copper is highly resistant to rust and mineral buildup.
  • Cleaner, Safer Water – Copper piping helps maintain water purity, reducing the chance of discoloration or contamination.
  • Increased Property Value – Upgrading to copper repiping is a long-term investment that makes homes and businesses more attractive to buyers.
  • Peace of Mind – With copper’s proven reliability, you won’t have to worry about constant leaks or water pressure issues.

At Repipe Once, we install copper systems designed to perform for the long run — so your plumbing is done once, done right.

Patch It Again, or Repipe?

One leak is a repair. A pattern is a different problem. When an exploratory leak search or slab leak detection turns up a single failure in otherwise sound pipe, repairing that section is the right call — and we will tell you so. When the same system has leaked two or three times, or the pipe we open up is corroded along its whole length, another patch is buying a few months.

Reroutes sit in the middle. Bypassing a failed run under the slab is a sound fix on its own terms, but if the rest of the house is the same age and the same material, a reroute often turns out to be the first section of a repipe you end up doing anyway — one room at a time, at a higher total cost. It is worth knowing what the whole system looks like before committing to the piece in front of you.

Because Repipe Once does both the detection and the repipe, our recommendation follows what we actually find in the walls, not the bigger invoice. Our guide to reroute vs a whole-home repipe walks through the four questions that settle it.

Our Copper Repiping Process

At Repipe Once, we follow a proven step-by-step process to ensure your new copper system is installed efficiently and built to last:

  1. Inspection & Consultation – We start by assessing your current plumbing system, identifying problem areas, and discussing your needs.
  2. Customized Plan & Estimate – Our team creates a tailored repiping plan for your home or business, with clear, upfront pricing.
  3. Professional Installation – We carefully remove outdated pipes and install durable copper replacements, minimizing disruption to your property.
  4. Testing & Quality Assurance – Once installation is complete, we pressure test the system and inspect every connection to ensure top performance and safety.
  5. Clean-Up & Final Walkthrough – We leave your property clean and walk you through the completed work for peace of mind.

With our efficient process, most copper repiping projects are completed in just a few days, giving you reliable plumbing without long downtime.

Ask About the Lifetime Warranty

Workmanship on every Repipe Once installation is warranted for 15 years — well beyond what most repipe contractors in Southern California put in writing. On qualifying work we also offer a lifetime warranty.

There is no list price for it, because eligibility and coverage depend on the property: its age, its size, the condition of what we are tying into, and how much of the system is being replaced. That is a conversation rather than a checkbox. If a warranty that outlasts the paperwork matters to you, say so when we come out to quote the job and we will work it into the estimate.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a whole-house copper repipe cost?

Cost depends on the size of your home, the number of fixtures, and how accessible the existing pipes are, so there’s no one-size-fits-all number. Repipe Once provides a free, upfront estimate with transparent pricing — the price we quote is the price you pay, with no hidden fees. Financing is also available through our Hearth partner program.

How long does copper repiping take?

Most whole-home copper repipes are completed in just a few days. Larger homes or commercial buildings can take longer, but we plan every project to minimize disruption and keep your water off for as short a time as possible.

Is copper better than PEX for repiping?

Both are excellent modern piping materials. Copper is time-tested, highly durable, and can last 50+ years, while PEX is more flexible and typically faster and less invasive to install. We install both and will recommend the right material for your property, budget, and local water conditions. See our full copper vs PEX comparison.

My plumber suggested a reroute. Should I repipe instead?

Sometimes, and sometimes not. A reroute that bypasses one failed run is a legitimate repair when the rest of the system is sound. The question to ask is what the other pipes look like — same age, same material, same condition? If so, a reroute is often the first installment of a repipe done piecemeal, which costs more in total than doing it once. We are happy to look at the whole system and tell you honestly which one your house needs.

Does a slab leak mean I need a whole-house repipe?

Not automatically. An isolated slab leak in otherwise healthy pipe can be repaired or rerouted. But slab leaks in older copper or galvanized systems are frequently the first visible symptom of pipe that is failing throughout, which is why we start with slab leak detection rather than assuming either answer. What we find determines the recommendation.

Do you offer a lifetime warranty on a copper repipe?

Workmanship is warranted for 15 years as standard, and a lifetime warranty is available on qualifying work. Coverage and eligibility depend on the property and the scope of the job, so there is no set price — ask about it when we quote and we will include it in the estimate. Full terms are on our limited warranty page.

Will you cut open my walls, and who fixes them afterward?

Repiping does require small, strategic openings in drywall to access pipe runs. We keep openings to a minimum, and patching is included in our process — we leave your property clean and walk you through the finished work.

Do I need a permit to repipe my house in California?

Yes — whole-home repipes require a plumbing permit and inspection in California. Repipe Once handles the permit process and makes sure the work is fully code-compliant, so you don’t have to deal with the paperwork.
